At Freudenberg Home and Cleaning Solutions GmbH (FHCS), we don't just clean; we clean with a purpose. Sustainability is woven into the fabric of our identity, and we have a longstanding commitment to environmental responsibility. In today's world, addressing industrial and consumer waste is among the most critical environmental challenges. The health of our oceans, the vitality of agriculture, and the overall quality of life hinge on how both businesses and consumers conscientiously navigate their impact on Earth. Recognizing the global scope of environmental waste and the need for collective action, we accept our responsibility to preserve the planet for future generations!

FHCS focuses on three main areas where we believe we can make the biggest difference – by creating products that last, by giving materials a second life and designing out waste. These pillars form the foundation of our sustainability goals and drive our everyday decisions and actions.

We invite you to join us on the journey toward a greener future by choosing our sustainable and durable cleaning products – read on.

"Making our economy sustainable is not a coincidence, but the direct result of actions we take – as companies and consumers. We can be proud of our achievements to date. Our durable products help save waste, while delivering excellent product performance. In recent years we continuously increased the use of recycled plastics in our solid plastic products from 15 to over 40 percent, and we make our plastic packaging out of 100% recyclable Polypropylene / Polyethylene packaging. But we have a responsibility to continuously improve and make a difference where we can."

Why Sustainability Matters: The Global Challenge

Why Sustainability Matters: The Global Challenge

As CO2 emissions surge, temperatures spike, and ecosystems teeter on the edge. Landfills overflow with waste, endangering local environments, while oceans choke on plastic pollution, imperiling marine life and disrupting fragile ecosystems. It's clear: sustainability isn't just an option—it's our lifeline to a healthier planet.

OUR BLUEPRINT FOR CHANGE: FHCS SUSTAINABILITY GOALS

Goal #1: Commitment to be CO2 Neutral by 2045

Goal #1: Commitment to be CO2 Neutral by 2045

FHCS is taking bold steps to combat climate change. Our first and foremost commitment is to achieve CO2 neutrality by 2045. To understand our approach, let's explore two critical aspects of carbon emissions - Scope 1 and Scope 2. Scope 1 Emissions: These are direct emissions that occur from sources that are owned or controlled by an organization. Scope 2 Emissions: The carbon footprint associated with the electricity and heat we purchase.

FHCS is committed to sustainability through its initiative "Sustainability Drives Climate Action." Since 2019, the company has been analyzing the impact of climate change and implementing a multi-step strategy:

  • Reducing Energy Use: FHCS is minimizing energy consumption through efficient practices.
  • Electrification: Transitioning to cleaner electricity sources.
  • Green Electricity: Purchasing and generating renewable energy.
  • Offsetting CO2 Emissions: Investing in carbon offset projects.

Goal #2: Strive For 100% Of Packaging to Be Designed For Recyclability, Reusability Or Compostability By 2025

Goal #2: Strive For 100% Of Packaging to Be Designed For Recyclability, Reusability Or Compostability By 2025

We are dedicated to achieving ambitious sustainability targets for 2025, striving for 100% of our packaging to be designed for recyclability, reusability, or compostability. Proudly part of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, we champion the ethos that less is more in sustainability. Our focus remains on reducing waste, fostering sustainable packaging, and eliminating virgin plastic, while focusing on what we do best: Creating high-quality products that last.

We currently use 9X less plastic in our packaging than industry standards, and continually set new targets, striving for even greater reductions in plastic usage. By using recycled plastic we save valuable raw material from being scrapped, never to be used again.

Goal #3: Achieve 50% recycled plastic in our own-produced solid plastic products by 2025

Goal #3: Achieve 50% recycled plastic in our own-produced solid plastic products by 2025

By 2025, we aim to eliminate 50% of our landfill waste, focusing on recycling 50% of plastic in our own production products.

Making a Difference with Recycled PET

Making a Difference with Recycled PET

Since 2005, bristles in most of our brooms have been made from recycled polyester taken from used bottle chips. We reduce the content of virgin raw material and we ensure that the bristles are firmly anchored to the frame, compared to traditional bristles.

TAKING ACTION: FREUDENBERG'S ANNUAL CLEANUP INITIATIVE

Our US office in Aurora, IL participated in #worldcleanupday as part of our annual Freudenberg Service Day. Our team spent the day collecting trash and cleaning up a local park.

This annual tradition is more than a cleanup; it's a powerful statement—one that underscores our proactive stance in addressing environmental challenges. It serves as a reminder of the remarkable impact we can make when we come together for a shared purpose.
